The Wales Veterans' Football Association accepted an invitation from England Veterans to send an o70s squad to face an England o70s squad...and although Wales dominated, the match ended all-square!
Wales, the double-winning World champions travelled to the home of English Football, St George’s Park, full of confidence so were disappointed to come away with a 1-1 draw after a dominating performance against the ‘old enemy’.
Wales controlled matters from the off with Rowlands, Compton and particularly, Laffan prominent...but although the visitors had opportunities to take the lead, a bizarre own goal...very much against the run of play...stunned the visitors.
Wales continued to besiege the opponents penalty area until Miles finally headed-home the equaliser from close-in! The onslaught continued but some fine last gasp defending...a lack of football intelligence in some situations and ultimately, profligacy by Wales...meant the match finished all-square.
The fact that everyone in the Welsh party was dissatisfied with a draw away to England shows how much is expected of this group. Wales have the chance for redemption in April!
