League runners-up, Merthyr Tydfil, beat League champions, The Continental, on penalties after a tense, hard-fought and fragmented match. Merthyr were much the better side in the first half, with York orchestrating from defence, and his side took a deserved lead in the 25th minute when captain, Owen, powered home a header from a Francis corner. Despite resolute defending by Morgan and Clarke, Francis should have extended Merthyr’s lead, but he skied a great effort from 12 yards out and it remained 0-1 at the interval.
In the second half, Continental played with more intent and Thompson finally started to affect the game. His fine squared pass to Isaac should have hit the net, but his effort was wayward. Thompson then seized on a rare error by MoM, York, and he was able to round keeper, Bailey, to tap in and take the game to penalties.
Merthyr were faultless with their first four spot-kicks but with Thompson and Nippers wide of the target, Merthyr’s Owen gleefully lifted the trophy. This victory partly makes up for losing out narrowly in last season's final AND seeing today's opponents take the League title.

3rd May
League champions, The Continental, beat Nelson Cavaliers 3-2 at Eastern High to secure their place in the o55s final. Mcdonald and Boulton scored for the Cavs, but Lewis and two late goals by Corfield and Thompson put ‘Conti’ through to the semi-final where they will face the League runners-up. Merthyr defeated Penybont 0-2 at Pencoed College with two second half goals by Clive Evans and Mark Price securing their cup final spot on 17th May at Cardiff University Campus in Llanrumney.
