Ponthir the big threat in Div 1! Bridgend Street o40s (EAST) League Div 2 champions!

8th March
In Division 1...Abercarn beat Pontymister at Islwyn High 1-0 with Howls getting the winner.
Ponthir defeated Newport Corries 3-1 and can still lift the League title if they win their outstanding fixtures! Sommers (2) and Shier got their goals with Collins replying for Corries.

1st March
In Division 2...Congratulations to Bridgend Street who claimed the o40s (EAST) Workwear Supermarket.com League Div 2 title with two games remaining. Goals by Carbis, Beddard, Horwood, White and Lukins gave them a convincing 5-0 away to Rogerstone.

In Division 1, Pontymister stunned league leaders, Canton, with a 5-3 victory, including an Aldridge hat-trick and a Williams brace. Thompson, Stewart and Davies were on target for Canton, who stay top.

Newport Corries missed a chance to significantly reduce Canton’s lead at the top, after a 3-3 draw against Penarth at Leckwith Campus...writes Acker Robinson... A great game of football. Penarth took the lead through Hutchinson and McGrath, but Corries were relentless and managed to claw back a 2-goal deficit and take a 3-2 lead through Whiskey (2) and Collins. But McGrath snatched an equaliser for the hosts with the last kick of the game!

22nd February
In Division 2, League leaders, Bridgend Street secured an emphatic 11-0 victory over Wattsville at Ocean Park. White (4), Fowler (2), Pennington (2), Horwood (2) and Carro were their goalscorers.

15th February
In Division 1, Newport Corries and Pontymister fought out a high-scoring 3-3 draw at Caldicot. Myles (2) and Watson scored for Corries and Aldridge (2) and Thomas for Pontymister.
In a high-scoring match at Eastern High School, Penarth secured their first victory with a fine 3-5 win against Cwmcarn....writes Acker Robinson... A good entertaining match this afternoon with the game swinging back and fore. Cwmcarn were the stronger side in the first half but only had one goal to show for it through McEwan. Playing with the wind in the 2nd half Penarth equalised through Prangley but soon conceded again, McEwan doubling his tally. With the benefit of a larger squad, Penarth equalised again through Maksimovic, and then went all out for the win, with Prangley getting his second and Hutchinson making it 5. Hill scored for the hosts with the last kick of a game played in the right spirit.

In Division 2, Tiger Bay secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Wattsville with goals by Mohammed, Ibrahim and Ashur. Jenkins and Walker replied for the visitors.
Cwmbran Celtic and Rogerstone drew 2-2 in a game of two Half's at Abersychan School...writes Kieran...Celtic went 2 nil up in the first half through Fullager and Scarfi but a number of 1 on 1’s were missed and a few injuries were suffered just after half time
In the second half Rogerstone showed their class and put us under pressure for the whole half and scored through Andrews and Eagles, and even a last-minute winner looked likely for Rogerstone but an outstanding save by Celtic keeper, Tattershall, ensured a share of the spoils.

7th February
In Division 2, Bridgend Street stayed 10 points clear after an entertaining 3-5 win against Cwmbran ...writes Jason...In a game of two half's, Celtic took a deserved 2-0 lead after 30 minutes through Holyfield and Felvud. Bridgend Street then managed to kick on and scored some well taken goals through Burnett, Dingle, Gardiner, Hopwood. Felvud scored his second on the hour to make the scores 4-3, but Fowler scored late on to secure the win. A minute’s silence was observed by both clubs, prior kick-off, to commemorate Ely Sports player, Ryan Smith, who sadly passed away on January 30th.

1st February
At the top of the Division 1, League leaders, Canton beat second placed Newport Corries, 2-1, in a game that came to life in the last 15 minutes at Fitzalan School. Myles put the visitors ahead on 75 minutes before Camilleri and Jawad sealed victory with 9 minutes remaining.
Third-placed Abercarn secured a hard-fought 2-4 victory away to Penarth with goals by Crees (2), Morgan and Davies. Maksimovic got a brace for the hosts.
The game between Pontymister and Cwmcarn finshed at 2-2. Goals by Mears and Taylor for ‘Ponty’ and a Whatley brace for Cwmcarn.

18th January
In Division 1, League leaders, Canton, extended their lead with an emphatic 2-9 victory over Cwmcarn with goals by Babareza (3), Gareth Davies (2), Mountstephen (2), Stewart and Thompson. Rudy and Shipp scored for the hosts.
Ponthir gave Penarth a lesson in finishing with a 9-1 win at home...writes Acker... Well that was a hard match, pity the pitch couldn’t have been a bit harder! I thought we finally had a squad to compete but it wasn’t to be.....Ponthir punished every wayward pass and their finishing was top class and they scored through Sommers (3), Vassallo (3) and Dunn (3). Robinson got Penarth’s consolation.
In Division 2, Bridgend Street moved 10 points clear at the top with a 4-1 home win against Rogerstone ...writes Jason....A closely contested game in poor conditions, but some great football played on the deck by both teams throughout. Goals by Beddard (2), Powell and Feehan for Bridgend Street with Taylor on target for the visitors.

4th January
In Division 1, Canton moved back to the top of the league courtesy of a hard-fought 3-2 win at home to 3rd placed, Abercarn. Babareza, Ball and Mountstephen were on target for the hosts, Cegielski and Jones for the visitors.
In Division 2, Rogerstone travelled to Tiger Bay and secured a fine 1-2 victory to move them into 3rd place. A Taylor brace secured the points for the visitors, and Askar scored a late consolation for the hosts.

21st December
In Division 1 of the o40s (EAST) Workwear Supermarket.com Leagues, Newport Corries moved back to the top of the league with a 2-4 win away to Abercarn...writes Dean... In a great, competitive game to finish the year, Abercarn were the better side first half and although Rory Davies put them ahead, they didn’t take their chances, including a missed penalty. The second half was close run thing but Corries were more clinical with their opportunities and scored through a Whiskey hat-trick and Hutchinson. Gwillim scored a late consolation.
A 4-4 goal-fest in the match between Penarth and Pontymister....writes Acker... A bitter pill to swallow when you’re 4-2 up with 4 mins + injury time to go but a fine game nevertheless. Scorers for Penarth Drewitt (2), McGrath and Self. Thomas, Munn, Elliot and Donald on target for the visitors.

7th December
In Division 1, Canton moved top with a 2-5 win away to Penarth...writes Acker...A really good game in very blustery conditions with some excellent football played at times. Montstephen put the visitors in the box-seat with 4! Hutchinson and Maksimovic got a couple back for the hosts but Babareza made it 5 with a late goal.
Abercarn beat Cwmcarn 3-0 with goals by Morgan (2) and Norris.

In Division 2, runaway leaders, Bridgend Street, extended their lead with a convincing 0-5 win away to nearest rivals, Tiger Bay....writes Jason...A tough game in testing conditions but some great football played by both teams throughout on a great surface and some fine goals by Powell (2), Horwood, Gardiner and Feehan.

23rd November
In Division 1 leaders, Newport Corries stayed top courtesy of an emphatic 9-0 win over Penarth with Whiskey (3), Lilygreen (2), Hutchinson (2), Williams (2) Cashman and Mould on target.
Second placed Canton kept up the pressure on the League leaders with a comfortable 7-1 win at home to Pontymister. Mountstephen (3), Barbreza (2), Naswari and Stewart on target for the hosts and Mears replying for the visitors.

Bridgend Street stay top of Division 2with a hard-fought victory away to Cwmbran...writes keiran... A good game played in a good spirit, the passing was on point for Bridgend Street, we aimed to give them a better game than last time, but Bridgend street finished their chances better with Burnett, Dingle, Gardiner, Horwood and Fowler on target. Felvud and Holyfield scored for the hosts.
Second placed Tiger Bay beat Wattsville comfortably 5-0 with Essa (3), Ahmed and Noor on target.

9th November
In Division 1 leaders, Newport Corries won a 10 goal thriller away to Pontymister. The visitors scored through Hutchinson (3), Myles, Whiskey, Pugh and Lilygreen. Williams (2) and Hansen were on target for the hosts.
Second placed, Ponthir secured an emphatic 8-0 win at home to Abercarn with goals by Sommers (3), Vassallo (2), Jones, Potts and Evans.
Penarth Wanderers and Cwmcarn Athletic fought out a high-scoring draw...writes Acker....”A cracking match at Cardiff International Sports Campus was highly competitive and end to end, and all played in the best spirit! We (Penarth) managed to get a point with our never say die attitude and although Cwm did miss a penalty, I think 4-4 was a fair result!” Scorers for Penarth were Maksimovic (2), Hutchinson and Brandt and for Cwmcarn, McEwan, Whatley and Craig Lewis...plus a Dave lewis OG.

In Division 2...unbeaten Bridgend Street, secured a crucial 3-1 win against local rivals, Tiger Bay. Beddard (2) and Powell were on target for the league leaders, with Essa replying for the visitors.
Second placed, Rogerstone were convincing winners at Cheptow, with McIntosh, Eagles, Taylor, Madden and OGs by Casey and Daykin. Oshea got a consolation for the hosts.
Wattsville defeated Cwmbran 5-0 at Islwyn Road with Godwin hat-trick and a brace from Walker to keep the pressure on the league leaders.

26th October
In Division 1 ....Ken writes....A great competitive game at the Velodrome but Canton deservedly came out on top with a fine 1-3 away victory against Newport Corries. Camilleri, Jawad and Mountstephen on target. Myles replied with a brace for Corries.

Abercarn secured a narrow home victory against Penarth with goals by Morgan, Norris and Davies. Sheperd and Drewitt were on target for the Wanderers...Acker writes... Excellent match today with not a great deal between the sides. A couple of strange goals scored but a good natured game.

Cwmcarn edged a 1-0 win over Pontymister...writes Jamesy.... A highly competitve game was played out at Waunfawr between Cwmcarn and Pontymister. Both sides played with grit and determination, with the bonus of some good football being played out. Half-time saw the game at 0-0after some stellar defending from both sets of players, but on another day those chances may have been converted. The 2nd half, was much the same, but it was the Carn who broke the deadlock with McCewan grabbing a breakaway goal - 1 v 0 to the home side. From there, it was backs to wall stuff for Cwmcarn, with Ponty applying the pressure but just couldn't get the breakthrough. Cwmcarn took the spoils, though, in what was a true grassroots type of game.

In Division 2, Wattsville secured a 3-1 victory at home to Cheptow, with Bird (2) and Jenkins on target. Oshea scored a late goal for the visitors.

Previous league leaders, Bridgend Street were held 1-1 away to Rogerstone...writes Halfo...Great battling by both sides ended in a fair draw with the hosts scoring through Taylor and Jeanne replying shortly after for the visitors.

Tiger Bay moved top with a 2-5 win over Cwmbran...writes Kieran...Celtic took a 2-1 lead in to half time through Holyfield and Stokoe, but in the 2nd half Tiger Bay came out strong and showed their class and took the points courtesy of Noor (3), Ibrahim and Farah.

12th October
In Division 1 of the o40s (EAST) Workwear Supermarket.com League, a goal by Mountstephen earned Canton a 1-0 win at home to Cwmcarn and Abercarn secured a 1-3 victory away to high-flying Pontymister with goals by Ceglieski (2) and Motsi. Thomas replied for the hosts. Ponthir beat Penarth 6-0 through a Versallo hat-trick and further goals by Dunn, Southan and Thompson.

In Division 2, Wattsville secured a 0-2 victory away to previously unbeaten, Rogerstone , with goals by Bird and Jenkins. Tiger Bay join Bridgend Street and Rogerstone on 6 points with an emphatic 7-1 win over Cwmbran with goals by Ashur (3), Ibrahim (2), Noor and Askar. Holyfield got a consolation for the Celtics.

5th October
Division 2
In this Division 2 match between Wattsville and Bridgend Street, the latter (pictured), claimed a fine 1-3 away win with goals by Powell, Gardiner and Fowler. Bird on target for the hosts.

28th September
Division 1
In the second round of matches in the o40s EAST League division 1, Newport Corries beat Cwmcarn...writes Jamesy... a superb and competitive game at Waunfawr today. Corries took the prize of a 2 v 0 win - even though the Carn remained competitive throughout. The game was played in true grassroots fashion style with a lot of passion and commitment from both sides. A brilliantly taken 1st goal by Lillygreen and a deflected 2nd goal by Clarke, secured the win.
Pontymister recorded a fine 3-2 home win against a much-fancied Ponthir. Jones and Evans scored for the visitors with Thomas and a Mears brace, including a winner in the dying minutes, for the Corries.

Division 2

In the o40s EAST League division 2, Rogerstone move top after a hard-fought 3-2 win against Tiger Bay with goals by Madden, Halford and Blewitt. Noor and Ibrahim were on target for Bay. Bridgend Street secured an impressive 8-1 win against Cwmbran with goals by Fowler (2), Howrood, Pennington, Meletti, Gibbs, Huish and Gardiner. Holyfield got the consolation for the Celtics. The game between Cheptow and Wattsville finished all-square with a brace a-piece for Scarfi and Bird!

15th September
Division 1
The o40s EAST League division 1 got underway with Canton (Naswari and Mountstephen) and Ponthir (Wall and Dunn) finishing 2-2. Pontymister defeated Penarth 5-1 with goals by Donald, Thomas, Williams, Taylor and Carter. Thomas got Penarth’s consolation.

Division 2
In the o40s WEST League division 2, Tiger Bay thrashed Cheptow 16-1 at Canal Park with Noor scoring 5 and Jama 4! Ibrahim (2), Mohammed, Farah, Arish and Abdi completed the scoring for the hosts. Scarfi and Light were on target for the visitors.
