In a thunderous battle between the two Llanelli over 40s sides, Llanelli Town edged Llanelli Reds 3-1 at a wet and windy Penrhos...writes Neil Bryant...Despite both squads training together and being best of friends off the pitch, there was no inch given over 90 minutes in a blood and thunder encounter. Llanelli Reds had an early chance when they tried their luck from distance with a speculative effort which fell agonisingly wide of an empty goal and then had a further opportunity to score but shot straight into the keeper’s arms in the Llanelli Town goal when off his line. The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Sam Brown (who else) drilled a direct free kick into the bottom corner of the Reds goal to give Town the lead. A huge 50/50 collision mid half between Paul Davey and Damien Daniels saw the latter leave the pitch as he learned just why his opponent is called ‘The Wall’. Brown doubled his tally just after the hour mark converting a superb assist from Angel Rangel. The Reds deservedly grabbed a goal back with 10 minutes to go when a fantastic free kick from Jamie Harries, destined for the top corner, was met with an equally impressive save from Alex Davies in goal however Paul Davey was on hand to tap in the rebound and set up a thrilling finale. Any hope the Reds had of salvaging a point were extinguished when Steve Devonald added a third goal for Llanelli Town to make sure of the 3 points and maintain their 100% record at the top of the 40s west division 1.

In Division 2, Burry Port secured a fine 1-4 victory away to Pontyclun with goals by Stone (2), Ian Williams and Wayne Williams. Dalton got a consolation for the hosts.....Andrew writes...A well deserved 4-1 win For Burry Port. Abercwmboi pulled a goal back after good work down the right side resulting in a cross that was headed onto the crossbar before hitting the back of goalkeeper Gary Evans and ending up in the net. Llanelli Reds managed to regain the lead before half time with Jon Gill running onto a through ball to slide it passed the keeper.
