The Wales Veterans' Football Association were delighted to accept an invitation from Coate FC, to send a Wales 40s Representative squad to Wiltshire and returned home with their second win within a week... writes Laurence Owen....
Manager, Owen took a strong 19-man squad to face top league side Coate FC at The County Ground home of Swindon Town FC and, despite going 1-0 down in the 28th minute, a header on 36 minutes by Ponthir’s Lewis Summers, levelled matters as the sides went into the break with Wales now on-top.
After the break and with Wales dominating proceedings, Barry Town’s Gavin Beddard made it 2-1 from the penalty spot on the hour. Matthew Hughes of Llanelli Town, made it 3-1 on 75 minutes and, with 10 minutes remaining, Beddard scored his second and Wales’ 4th from a delightful Damon Daniels (Penydarren) corner, to record a very satisfying win.
Owen commented, “The squad was fully utilised on a very warm evening and on a very big league two pitch and every player contributed to what was a very good team performance which extends our unbeaten run to 30 months!”
