Congratulations to Pontyclun, who lifted the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com CUP 2025/26 with a well-deserved 1-2 win over Barry Town. Although Seago failed to convert a good early chance for Barry, Pontyclun had the better of the early exchanges with (Dean) Jones prominent and Fitzgibbon and Mele causing constant problems for the Barry back-line with their pace and movement. The latter, should have capitalised on a defensive lapse, but was denied by keeper, (John) Jones, then minutes later crashed a header against the crossbar from a corner. They were rewarded on 30 minutes when Hatch picked up a loose Barry pass, then drove forward before shooting. His effort was parried by the keeper but ‘Clun ‘head honcho’, Ryan, crashed home the rebound. Barry played some neat one-touch football and Sanderson drew the teams level just before the interval with a fine strike from outside the box.
Barry started the second half with fresh hope and they finally applied some pressure on the ‘Clun defence, and although Sanderson had a huge opportunity to put them ahead, they were always under threat of the long ball up to the dynamic opposition strikers and with 10 minutes remaining, O’Connor outpaced the Barry defence and put his side back-ahead on his second attempt. In the last few minutes, a relentless Mele forced a penalty but skied the resultant spot-kick, he was denied, again, by keeper Jones, before Martin somehow failed to connect with a ball across the six-yard box...but Pontyclun claimed a fine win and a jubilant Ryan collected the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com cup.

Merthyr Tydfil hosted Barry Town, losing 0-2 in a hard-fought semi-final match at Afon Taf School. The visitors dominated the early midfield exchanges but they failed to capitalise on a number of dissecting through-balls from Huish, Averies and Dalton. After the early pressure from Barry, the game evened out with Bailey in the Merthyr goal afforded time to spray long balls up to the dangerous Evans, Guinnane and Price...but they found the Barry rear-guard of Wilson, Blackie, Warman and Stait in defiant form and keeper, Hill was rarely threatened. Barry took a deserved 1nil lead within minutes of the interval, when a Wilson corner was headed powerfully into the top-corner by Averies from 15 yards.
Minutes into the second half, Cooksey extended their lead after good work by Seago and Sanderson. The game ebbed and flowed with Barry the more threatening, but Hill made a fine save from Price and at the other end Bobbett, robbed the keeper then unselfishly squared to his strike-partner when a shot from 20 yards into an unguarded net would have been the better option, but the visitors retained their composure to seal the win and secure a cup final spot against Pontyclun who defeated hosts, Swansea, 2-3 at Penyrheol...writes Robbie Ryan... In another fine competitive game between two well matched sides, the visitors, struck an early goal after Owen and Mele opened up the home side’s defence, allowing Mele to finish Cooly from 25 yards over the stranded keeper. The hosts responded and piled on the pressure with a flurry of crosses and corners which eventually resulted in (Andy) Jones rising like a salmon to head home the equaliser.
The competitive battle in the midfield dominated the remainder of the half, however, one intricate phase saw Pontyclun’s Connor break down the left wing into the penalty area only to be brought down for a penalty. Mele calmly slotted the resultant spot kick to give his side a 1-2 half time lead.
The home side started the 2nd half brightly pushing the visitors back and forcing them to defend resolutely on their 18 yard line until they were finally breached by Fredrickson’s smart finish on the hour, which brought the game all square again. Pontyclun responded positively and forced their way forward winning a few corners and Owen, who had been causing issues with his high-quality crosses, delivered the perfect in-swinging corner directly into the net to give the visitors the lead for the third time in this end to end Cup thriller. As expected Swansea threw everything, including the kitchen sink, at Pontyclun but some excellent defending and crucial saves from keeper, Adrian Lovett, kept them at bay and Pontyclun advanced to their third final in five seasons.
