Wales o65s travel to N. Ireland for Tri-nations!

The Wales Veterans' Football Association are proud to send an o65s squad to Northern Ireland for the first-ever o65s Tri-nations tournament. The format of this inaugural competition will differ from normal, with the three participating nations, N. Ireland, Wales and England playing their fixtures over a 3-week period. Firstly, Wales travel to Donnard Park in Newcastle, County Down on 15th April to face the hosts. They then welcome England to Cardiff’s Ocean Park Arena on 29th April...and then sit-back and wait for the outcome of the England v N. Ireland match on 8th May.

The teams will be playing for The Dennis Murphy Memorial Trophy, in honour of one of the founder members of Wales’ Veterans Football. Dennis founded Merthyr Veterans Football Club back in 1987 and helped establish a Wales Veterans Football League in 2009. In 2016 he became a Life, Vice-President of the newly formed, Wales Veterans' Football Association and was awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) for services to veterans' Football in Merthyr Tydfil. The trophy has been kindly donated by Northern Ireland Manager, Mark Hughes.
