Magnificent Meacham earns Swansea famous cup win!

18th May
A hard-working Swansea lifted the o70s Cup with a defiant 1-0 win over League champions, Penybont. The diminutive Hywel Evans scored with a bullet header after good work by Barletta, but courageous defending, with Jones and Laffan outstanding, and a heroic performance from double world cup- winning keeper, Meacham secured the win.

In the early stages, Swansea offered slightly more control and the game was fairly even...until the goal! After-which, Penybont frantically pressed for an equaliser but without any real rhythm or composure. When they did threaten, they found the opposition defence resolute and MoM, Meacham, in sparkling form to keep his team ahead. The Swans held on for a famous win and captain, Waygood, collected the inaugural o70s Cup from FAW vice-president, Mark Adams, who praised the “fitness, determination and skill of both sides”.

The o70s League and cup competitions have been a huge success in their first season and everyone is looking forward to more of the same in 2026/27.

28th April
O70s League champions, Penybont, progressed to the o70s Cup final courtesy of a hard-fought 1-0 win over a depleted Barry Town. Penybont started the stronger but it was Barry who created a great early chance, Arnold denied by Penybont keeper, Davies, when through on goal. Penybont continued to create the better opportunities but it remained goal-less at the interval.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Penybont dominating possession, but Barry providing a stubborn rear-guard, with Miles, converted to centre-half minutes before kick-off, due to late withdrawals, outstanding. When the breakthrough eventually came, it was slightly fortuitous, Morgan scoring directly from a wind-assisted corner. Barry tried to get back on level terms but the Penybont defence, well marshalled by Roberts and keeper, Davies were consummate and their side advanced to the final. They will face Swansea who defeated a much-fancied Newport side on penalties. Challingsworth put the East Walians ahead and they led at half-time. A rallying half-time team-talk by keeper/manager, Meacham obviously had the desired affect when Laffan equalised with 20 minutes remaining. Both teams pressed for the winner but the game ended all-square. Swansea edged the resultant penalty shoot-out and now look-forward to the final on 18th May.
