21st April
Swansea 0, Barry Town 1
League champions, Barry Town, advanced to the semi-finals after a hard-fought win against a determined Swansea side with inspirational keeper, Meacham in sparkling form. The visitors dominated much of the first-half and should have taken the lead, but profligacy in front of goal and a fine series of saves by Meacham, kept the scores level. Swansea also had a great opportunity to take the lead themselves but Hope skewed a great chance wide.
The second half mirrored the first with the visitors dominating but the hosts still offering a threat on the break, with Barletta putting in a great shift, albeit Thomas was consummate in the heart of the defence for Barry and ‘stand-in keeper, Rutherford was never troubled. With 10 minutes remaining, Meacham was again called into action, this time making a superb save at the foot of the post from a fierce shot by Huish. Although his defensive partners, including Edwards, Griffiths and O’Connor proved a defiant rear-guard for the Swans, a fine shot by the League’s top-scorer, Miles, looped over the Swansea glove-man with 4 minutes remaining and his team, deservedly progressed to the semi-final on 6th May. They will face the winners of Pontyclun or Newport, which will be played on the 22nd April.
