26th May
Barry Town, completed the League and cup double with a hard-fought 3-0 win over Merthyr Tydfil in the o65 WorkwearSupermarket.com CUP final at a sweltering Ocean Park Arena.
The Seasiders were at it from the off and their domination in midfield created several opportunities to score, even before a neat exchange between Bobbett and Marshall on 16 minutes enabled Davies to finish with aplomb to give them a deserved lead. Barry maintained their control and on 26 minutes, Staddon rifled in a free-kick from 25 yards to take his side into the interval 2-0 up.
The second half followed a similar pattern but both sides were noticeably wilting in the intense heat. Lambert was lively for Merthyr, but they rarely threatened the Barry back-line, well-marshalled by Gibb, and when Evans’ shot from distance ‘evaded’ the keeper, the job was all but done.
Barry captain, Huish, collected the trophy from Wales Veterans secretary, Rob Seago in the knowledge that this win ensured Barry went through the season unbeaten, testimony to the fine football played and the decisions of manager, Blackie.
13th May
A convincing 4-1 win for Merthyr Tydfil against Penybont, means they will face Barry Town in the o65 WorkwearSupermarket.com CUP final. They took an early lead through Picton and O’Sullivan added a second 10 minutes later, after a speedy break by the dangerous Lambert, and this put them firmly in the driving seat. An error in the Merthyr defence allowed Morgan to slot home and disrupt Merthyr’s dominance, and it remained 2-1 at the interval.
Hill restored Merthyr’s 2 goal advantage with a clinical finish early in the second half and with captain, (Stephen) Fisher, pulling the strings in their midfield, it wasn’t long before Challenger wrapped up the game minutes from time. The anger management sessions seem to be paying off for (Paul) Fisher, who avoided his customary red card and is able to line-up with his teammates in the cup final on 26th May.
6th May
League champions, Barry Town, advanced to the o65 WorkwearSupermarket.com CUP final, after a hard-fought win against a determined Pontyclun. The opening exchanges were even but on 15 minutes Staddon put Barry ahead when he volleyed home a fine Blackaby cross. (Huw) Davies extended Barry’s lead with a superb headed goal after good work by (Stu) Evans and Marshall, and his team led 2-0 at the break.
Pontyclun started the second half on the front foot and they got back into the match when one of White’s, customary, accurate crosses was headed home powerfully by Fitzgibbon. Barry responded, and their fine interplay was causing problems for the Pontyclun defence, although Thompson was in defiant form. On the hour, a pass found Huish in the box, and his neat lay-off was slammed home by Branch from 20 yards, to put his team back in the driving seat. Minutes later, Huish put the game beyond Pontyclun when he crashed home a free-kick from 30 yards out. Rutherford completed the scoring minutes from time, heading home a delightful Staddon cross. Barry now meet Merthyr or Penybont in the final on 26th May.

Herrin also scored a brace for Newport either side of Bassett’s second and Pontyclun’s fifth goal, which saw them move, comfortably into the semi-final where they will face Barry Town on 6th May. 21st April
Swansea 0, Barry Town 1
League champions, Barry Town, advanced to the semi-finals after a hard-fought win against a determined Swansea side with inspirational keeper, Meacham in sparkling form. The visitors dominated much of the first-half and should have taken the lead, but profligacy in front of goal and a fine series of saves by Meacham, kept the scores level. Swansea also had a great opportunity to take the lead themselves but Hope skewed a great chance wide.
The second half mirrored the first with the visitors dominating but the hosts still offering a threat on the break, with Barletta putting in a great shift, albeit Thomas was consummate in the heart of the defence for Barry and ‘stand-in keeper, Rutherford was never troubled. With 10 minutes remaining, Meacham was again called into action, this time making a superb save at the foot of the post from a fierce shot by Huish. Although his defensive partners, including Edwards, Griffiths and O’Connor proved a defiant rear-guard for the Swans, a fine shot by the League’s top-scorer, Miles, looped over the Swansea glove-man with 4 minutes remaining and his team, deservedly progressed to the semi-final on 6th May. They will face the winners of Pontyclun or Newport, which will be played on the 22nd April.
