Newport face Swansea in Final!

27th April
Barry Town 1, Newport 2
The visitors advanced to the o60s WorkwearSupermarket.com CUP final following a demanding match, at a tropical Bro Morgannwg. An evenly-balanced first 15 minutes was punctuated when Marshall was penalised for hand-ball and Thomas slotted home past Mullen in the Barry goal. The hosts reacted and Newport gloveman, Cueto saved brilliantly from a Huish shot from distance, before a superb angled strike by Matthews made the game all-square. The already depleted hosts lost a striker and both centre-halves to injury and Routley took full advantage, heading home, unchallenged at the far post after a fine Dyke cross. The final ten minutes was a battle of attrition, but Newport held on for a deserved win and they will face Swansea in the Final on 11th May.

Swansea 4, Pontyclun 3
Despite an outstanding hat-trick by Mele, Pontyclun failed to upset the hosts in a tight cup semi final...writes Rob Seago... Pontyclun led on three occasions before half time despite Swansea dominating play. In early exchanges Swansea should have led through Otway and Fredrickson but chances were spurned. Mele then capitalised when Fredrickson was caught in possession curling a fine effort from the corner of the box leaving Meacham no chance. Swansea responded immediately through Fredrickson before Mele produced a mirror image effort at the other end after poor communication in the Swansea defence. Just before half time Swansea were awarded a penalty after a Ryan hand ball which Medwin duly despatched. Minutes later though Mele popped up to slot in the corner giving the away team a 3-2 lead at the break.

Swansea came out in the second half determined to put things right and started brightly but failed to get through the resolute Pontyclun defence. Manager, Lloyd (inspired) release of Davidson from his defensive duties and the introduction of Swansea’s strong bench boosted attacking opportunities and after a fine Clarke effort the rebound was scrambled in by Lockett for 3-3. The winning goal came when Ryan conceded a second penalty pulling down Otway when he was in on goal. Medwin completed his brace from the spot and Swansea could finally relax and look forward to final against Newport at Cardiff University Fields on 11th May.

13th April
Barry Town 2, Cardiff Academicals 0
The hosts were comfortable winners at Bro Morgannwg despite the usual defiant performance by the visitors. Huw Davies could have given the Accies the lead but his strike was well-saved by Barry gloveman, Mullen, before the hosts took control of the midfield and created a number of fine opportunities to score with Murray creating problems down the right and Warman deservedly put them ahead with a clinical strike on fifteen minutes. In the second half Barry maintained their domination as the visitors noticeably tired but it took a scrappy goal to seal victory when Cooksey bundled over from close-in to ensured his team advanced to the semi-final where they will host Newport.

Pontyclun 9 - Merthyr 0
The hosts were worthy winners in this Cup contest on a very hard and difficult surface at Ivor Park...writes Robbie Ryan... The home side scored 2 early goals and went in 4 - 0 at half time, and then scored another 5 goals in the second half of this dominant performance, but huge credit must go to Merthyr who were without a few key players and didn't stop trying to play football and compete for entire 80 minutes. Pontyclun’s scorers were Mele with 6(!) along with Owen, Thomson and MacNamara and they will now travel to Swansea in the semi-final on 27th April.

Penybont 0, Newport 3
Penybont conceded, so Newport advance to the semi-final where they will travel to face Barry Town.

Swansea A 0, Swansea 2
In this very 'local' derby at Penyrheol Leisure Centre, two early goals from Otway and Medwin settled this tie. Swansea will now host Pontyclun in the semi-final on 27th April.
