In Division 1, Llanelli Town maintained their comfortable lead at the top, despite their game being postponed. Llanelli Reds sustained their challenge with a 4 – 9 victory at Abercwmboi... Writes manager Paul Davey....Llanelli Reds started with some good chances but failed to finish. Welsh then scored for Abercwmboi with their first shot – which was too powerful for Llanelli keeper, Williams to hold. Abercwmboi extended their lead when their keeper, Baller, came out to clear and hit the ball the length and over the Llanelli keeper into the net. Llanelli pulled one back with Davey tapping in a rebound from a Quinn free kick. Gill brought the sides level with his first of the afternoon. Llanelli then took a 2-4 lead into half-time through Quin and Gill. In the second half, Mcewan scored early for the visitors before Abercwmboi started to attack more and pulled a goal back through Hatch, before Gill scored a further 3 for Llanelli on the break. Abercwmboi missed the opportunity to pull one back from the penalty spot before John Gill got his sixth of the day. Welsh got his second with a smart lob to make it Abercwmboi 4, Llanelli Reds 9.
Rockspur stayed level with the Reds after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Upper Rhondda. Rhondda scored first through Oram before Phillips, Johnson and Shakir put the hosts 3-1 ahead. Barnes made it 3 – 2 with 10 minutes remaining.
In Division 2, Tata Steel moved top after an emphatic 8-0 win at home to Burry Port with McLachlan (2), Rich Williams (2), Howard, Stevens, Mcsweeney and Harvey on target.
7th December
Llanelli Town maintained their wide lead at the top with an emphatic 1-9 win over rivals, Rockspur. ...writes a pitch-side reporter.... In awful windy and wet conditions the Llanelli boys marched on playing quick one touch football and taking an early lead through a 20 yard Reed strike - his first for the club. Mathews got the second, controlling the ball from a corner before chipping the keeper from edge of box with his RIGHT foot. Daniels smashed home his first goal for the club, after a lovely break down right with Pike squaring the ball across the box. Rockspur got a goal back through Smith, but just before half time, Trundle put Brown through only to be taken out by the defender, who received his marching orders. In the second-half Brown bagged 5 goals including the goal of the day, when the striker gleefully smashed home a Trundle through-ball. Skipper Carl Thomas, made it 9.
Llanelli Reds kept up their challenge with a narrow win over Briton Ferry Llansawel...writes a pitch-side reporter.... The 'Reds' travelled to local rivals, Briton Ferry, for a much-anticipated clash. Ferry took the lead with a penalty from Warren, but the visitors responded with an equaliser from the next corner of the game through ‘Jibby’ Andrews.
In the second half the ‘Reds’ took the lead when Dean Davies was put through and found the top corner. Ferry reacted and a long ball over the top, was crossed, and headed home by Watts. With 15 minutes remaining debutant, John Bourne put through Dean Davies again, and the in-form striker coolly slotted home to give the Reds the 3 points in a very exciting, hard fought derby.
Llanelli Town o40s, 2025
In Division 2, The match between Swansea and Pontyclun finished all-square at Penyrheol. Jenkins put the hosts ahead early-on but Teisar equalised in the second half to ensure a share of the spoils....as the Swans move to the top of the table.
23rd November
Llanelli Town extended their lead at the top of In Division 1 of the o40s (West) League with an emphatic 8-0 win over Upper Rhondda ...writes Gotrel.... A good game in windy conditions with some fine football played by both teams, with the hosts having more of the ball and trying to break through a solid defence from the away team, but fitness took its toll and Llanelli ran away with it in the end with goals from Brown (4) Evans, Devonald, Pike and Jones.
Briton Ferry Llansawel won 2-4 away to Penlan. Warren (2), Parry and Davies on target for the visitors and Shannon getting a brace for the hosts.
The match between Llanelli Reds and Rockspur could have gone either way but ended one goal each...writes Paul Davey....In the first half Rockspur had more of the possession but Llanelli created the better chances but were only able to convert one when striker, Gill was put through on goal and finished well. Second half Rockspur again had greater possession with chances being even as Llanelli hit on the counter attack. Rockspur managed to equalise through Johnson, finishing off from a cross after good work down the left on 68th minute. After the goal neither side were able to convert a chance to win the game. The draw being a fair result overall.
In Division 2, Swansea beat Burry Port 3-2 at Penyrheol. Sandford (2) and Reid were on target for the Swans with Evans also getting a brace for the visitors.
Tata Steelmade it 3 wins from 3 with a convincing 5-0 win over Pontyclun with goals from James, Howard, Williams, Johnson and McLachlan.
9th November
In Division 1 of the o40s (West) Llanelli Reds beat Upper Rhondda 0-1 in a competitive game at Pentre...writes Dai... a tough game in tough conditions and on reflection, Llanelli deserved the win in the end even if it took an Oram OG to win it.
Penlan edged Rockspur in a 4-6 goal-fest at Amman Valley. Matwychuk (2), Edwards and Smith were on target for the hosts with Penlan scoring through Shannon (2), Jenkins, Price, Raeburn and an Evans OG.
In Division 2, Burry Port out-scored Swansea in a 9 goal thriller at Penrhos. Williams (2), Smolka and Evans were on target for the hosts, with the Swans edging the game with goals by Sandford (2), Lucas, Brown and Jenkins.
Afan lido came out on top in a 5-8 goal-fest at Pontyclun.....writes Andrew... “Lido scored early with two quality counter attacking goals. A third goal from Lido on the stroke of HT gave them a well-deserved 3-0 lead. Pontyclun come out in the 2nd half with a little more purpose and attacking intent and made a context of it. The 2nd half was end to end and both sides scored some cracking goals but Lido were worthy winners.” The hosts scored through Rogers (3), Jones and Hughes. Barness (2), Hinchey (2), McCreesh (2), Ellis and McGrath on target for Lido.
Tata Steel took the 3 points with a 1-2 win away to Cwmbach through a Rich Williams brace. Carson got Cwmbach’s goal.
26th October
In Division 1 of the o40s (West) Workwear Supermarket.com League, Rockspur defeated Abercwmboi 9-1 with goals by Silitoe (2), James (2), Chapman, Phillips, Matwychuk, Smith and Johnson.
In a thunderous battle between the two Llanelli over 40s sides, Llanelli Town edged Llanelli Reds 3-1 at a wet and windy Penrhos...writes Neil Bryant...Despite both squads training together and being best of friends off the pitch, there was no inch given over 90 minutes in a blood and thunder encounter. Llanelli Reds had an early chance when they tried their luck from distance with a speculative effort which fell agonisingly wide of an empty goal and then had a further opportunity to score but shot straight into the keeper’s arms in the Llanelli Town goal when off his line. The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when Sam Brown (who else) drilled a direct free kick into the bottom corner of the Reds goal to give Town the lead. A huge 50/50 collision mid half between Paul Davey and Damien Daniels saw the latter leave the pitch as he learned just why his opponent is called ‘The Wall’. Brown doubled his tally just after the hour mark converting a superb assist from Angel Rangel. The Reds deservedly grabbed a goal back with 10 minutes to go when a fantastic free kick from Jamie Harries, destined for the top corner, was met with an equally impressive save from Alex Davies in goal however Paul Davey was on hand to tap in the rebound and set up a thrilling finale. Any hope the Reds had of salvaging a point were extinguished when Steve Devonald added a third goal for Llanelli Town to make sure of the 3 points and maintain their 100% record at the top of the 40s west division 1.
In Division 2, Burry Port secured a fine 1-4 victory away to Pontyclun with goals by Stone (2), Ian Williams and Wayne Williams. Dalton got a consolation for the hosts.....Andrew writes...A well deserved 4-1 win For Burry Port. But a game played with good spirit and both teams had chances with Pontyclun hitting the bar when 0-1
Swansea secured a convincing 6-2 home win against Cwmbach...writes Mark Stephen...The weather was not great, but the football was very competitive. Swansea coming from behind with a strong second half performance to win 6-2. Lots of passion on show from both teams. Scorers for the hosts were Sandford (2), Thomas, Anyadike, Jenkins and a Blakemore OG. Williams and Moulds scored for Cwmbach.
17th October
Llanelli Town hammered Penlan 18-2 with an
unbelievable performance...writes Gotrel...Llanelli moved the ball so quickly from back to front that the Penlan boys couldn’t cope. Llanlli also took their chances with some lovely team goals, including, Sam Brown with, Bartley with 6, Keddle with 2 and O'Sullivan. Credit to Penlan players who never gave in and played to the final whistle and scored two of their own through Maunder and Shannon.
12th October
In Division 1 of the o40s (West) Workwear Supermarket.com League, Upper Rhondda beat Abercwmboi handsomely 10-1 with Sweet (4), Morris (2), Howells, Llewellyn, Taylor and a Hinksman OG. Welch scored a consolation for the visitors. Rockspur secured a fine 5-1 victory at home to Briton Ferry Llansawel. Connochie, Edwards, Stone, Smith and Matwychuk on target. Parry got ‘Ferry’s’ consolation.
In Division 2, Pontyclun secured an emphatic 4-0 victory at home to Swansea with goals by Gav Davies (2), Rogers and Craig Jones. The match between Cwmbach and Burry Port was abandoned, with Cwmbach leading 3-0, when Burry Port player, Darren Mahoney, was badly injured...we wish him a speedy recovery!
5th October
In this Division 1 match Abercwmboi suffered their second big defeat in a fortnight at the hands of Llanelli...writes Paul Davey....A competitive game that was closer than the scoreline suggests. Llanelli Reds opened the scoring with Paul Davey heading in from a corner. A few minutes later Jon Gill doubled the lead with Jamie Harries providing a second assist. Abercwmboi pulled a goal back after good work down the right side resulting in a cross that was headed onto the crossbar before hitting the back of goalkeeper Gary Evans and ending up in the net. Abercwmboi then equalised from a free kick crossed to the far post for Darren Blandon to head in. Llanelli Reds managed to regain the lead before half time with Jon Gill running onto a through ball to slide it passed the keeper. Second half Llanelli Reds managed to increase their lead early on with Dean Davies finding the net. After 60 minutes with the game becoming a bit more stretched Llanelli took control and added a further 6 goals with Dean Davies taking his tally to 5 and John Gill 4. Abercwmboi also grabbed a third late on through Craig Howells.
28th September
In the second round of matches in Division 1 of the o40s (West) Workwear Supermarket.com League, a hat-trick by Mal Jones secured Upper Rhondda a fine 1-3 away win against Briton Ferry Llansawel, who scored through Gowen. Llanelli Town thumped Abercwmboi 14-2.......Williams put Aber ahead, but 8 goals by Brown, 4 by Bartley and a further 2 by Thomas secured a handsome victory for Last seasons champions. Howells got a further consolation for the hosts. Llanelli Reds didn’t fare so well, going down 2-0 to Penlan who scored through Jenkins and Eames in a game described by....Toddy...as a cracking battle, played in great spirit!
Plenty of goals in the second round of matches in Division 2 of the o40s (West) Workwear Supermarket.com League, where Burry Port secured a fine 5-2 win over Pontyclun through Williams (2), Stone, Ceri Evans and Dylan Evans. Davies and Jones scored for the visitors. Tata Steel won by the same score-line at Swansea with goals Williams (2), Lobo, Jenkins and Johnson. Anyadike and Sandford were on target for the Swans. A goal-fest at Cwmbach Rec with the visitors, Afan Lido, securing a 6-3 victory with goals by Reynolds (3), Kinsey, Barness and Watkins. Moulds, Price and Sexton were on target for Cwmbach.
15th September
Division 1
Llanelli Town got off to a fine start in the o40s WEST League division 1 with a 6-1 win against Briton Ferry Llansawel through a hat-trick a-piece for Brown and Keddle. Jones got Ferry’s consolation.
Division 2
The o40s WEST League division 2 got underway with Pontyclun recording a fine 7-2 win over Cwmbach with goals Rogers (2), Jones (2), Ackland, Hughes and Lewis. Pitt and Price were on target for the visitors.
