The Wales Veterans' Football Association invited a Gloucester Veterans squad to Cardiff to face their o65s Representative team at a balmy Ocean Park Arena.
With manager, Rob Seago unavailable, Paul Averies readied the team for action....and they certainly started with intent, playing across the back and stretching the opposition with their quick, crisp passing orchestrated by Branch, and hosts should have taken the lead after several fine moves. Finally, fifteen minutes in, Edwards found Evans, whose pinpoint cross was smashed home by Steer from close in. Wales continued to dominate and some lovely flowing football initiated by Huish, Thompson and Edwards resulted in several corners, one of which was seized upon by Branch who calmly clipped home to give Wales a comfortable 2-0 interval lead.
The second-half followed a similar pattern with Stadddon, Moglia, Branch, James and Evans controlling matters, and the latter making it 3-0 with a superlative strike from 30 yards. Minutes later, good work by Huish enabled Evans to advance into the box before tucking away neatly to put the game beyond the visitors. Some late changes proved costly, and with reduced composure and athleticism, two errors allowed the opponents to snatch two goals back, including a super strike. However, with minutes remaining, Steer galloped clear and tucked away his second and Wales’ 5th, to better reflect the hosts' dominance.
Congratulations to the players who were selected by manager, Rob Seago.....
