The Wales Veterans' Football Association accepted an invitation from Saundersfoot Veterans to send an o65s squad to Saundersfoot Sports & Social Club to face them in their annual friendly match....and they came away with a creditable win.
The host’s squad included several Wales veterans’ regulars in their line-up, including Saundersfoot captain and manager, Napoleon Branch and it promised to be a tight affair. After a promising start by the visitors, they started to knock long aimless passes and a general malaise set-in. The hosts took the initiative and their talisman, Branch, began to dominate proceedings and they went close on three occasions before Kev Brown put them ahead after one of his customary mazy runs and they led 1-0 at the interval.
In the second half, Wales started with more tenacity and accuracy, and although Saundersfoot were still dangerous on the break against a vulnerable and ponderous Wales defence, the increased tempo bore fruit. Firstly, Miles was fouled in the box, and Seago converted the resultant penalty. This added further spark to the visitors and Seago, again, finished sharply after a free-flowing move. Wales completed the scoring when another penalty was awarded and Staddon clipped home with aplomb and the game ended 1-3.
