Wales o45s match ends all-square in Cardiff!

The Wales Veterans' Football Association invited Midlands side, Yardley Vets, to take on their o45s Representative squad at Cardiff’s Ocean Park Arena, and a fantastic game, between two strong footballing sides, finished all-square....writes Paul Richards...

Wales had plenty of possession early on, but it was the younger opponents who dealt with the stifling conditions better and they created the better, early opportunities and when the hosts lost possession, another speedy counter-attack ended with a fine finish. Wales then started to come more into the game with both Steve Davies and Rob Aldridge having chances to score, but shots going wide of the mark

Half time changes in personal and system had an immediate impact with Wales getting in behind the Yardley full backs and chances, created for Anthony Ferguson and Rhys Llewellyn, were well saved by the visiting keeper. Yardley then had a great break and after a low cross was put in, the ball was well cleared by MotM, Nevin Riches. The hosts equalised when an excellent move down the right saw Gareth Jones cutting in and smashing the ball home with style. Yardley responded by forcing a corner, which resulted in a superb header flashing over the bar, but Wales continued to dominate possession with Damon Searle and Leon Thomas linking-well to put Ferguson in, but his screamer skimmed the far post. Although skipper, Jamie Maher, continued to drive the team and search for the winner......1-1 was a fair result.
