WVFA take part in Football Matches in aid of Velindre Hospital Charity, 30th June 2024

The Wales Veterans' Football Association accepted an invitation to support a charity event which raised over £1000 for the Velindre Hospital charity!

Danny Saffer, a WVFA member, was looking to raise money for 'Velindre' in memory of his partner, Naomi Cornish, who sadly passed away in March. The WVFA sent two Representative squads to face Pentyrch Rangers o40s/45s and Cardiff Accies o50/55s, with all proceeds from the event going to the charity.

The succcssful day at Parc Y Dwrlyn in Pentyrch began with a win for the Wales o45s...Pentyrch took the lead, against the run of play, and subsequently played some excellent direct football which tested the Welsh defence. On 20 mins, Wales created an opening for a shot on goal which Williams saved excellently, but John followed up with a low by bicycle kick for 1-1. The end to end pattern continued with Pentyrch looking dangerous on the break and just before half time, they scored after of a mix up in the Welsh defence, and took a 2-1 lead into the interval.

After a few choice words, a change of personal and shape, Wales came out of the blocks. A higher line, a higher press and quicker inter play, allowed Cameron to curl a stunning left foot strike into the far corner of the goal 2-2. Wales then took the lead through Hutchins latching onto a cross from Davies. Hosgood was causing the opposition real problems and after some quick passing in midfield between Walsh and Taylor, Hosgood raced through on goal and placed a delighful lob over the keeper to give his team a 4-2 lead. Just before the final whistle, the tricky Taylor unleashed a rocket to make the final score 5-2.
