Pontyclun move top!

28th October
Pontyclun moved to the top of the table with a 2-3 win over Newport. In an end-to-end encounter, the hard-working Baldwin put Clun ahead on 12 minutes. Debutant, Griffiths, equalised soon after but Powell put Clun back in front going into the interval with a delightful strike from 25 yards. In the second half, Griffiths got his second to draw the team’s level, only for Ryan to settle the game with 10 minutes remaining.
Barry Town, also made it 2 from 2 after a hard-fought 0-1 victory over Penybont. There was a lack of quality on show but plenty of endeavour from both sides. Barry edged possession, thanks mainly to man of the match, Branch, and he was unlucky to see his shot saved after fine interplay on 10 minutes. A long-range effort from Penybont defender, Harris, clipped the post and it remained scoreless at the break. In the second half, Barry played more on the front foot, but Davies and Moglia were defiant and there was still a dearth of goal-mouth activity from both sides. The game was finally decided when Barry's Huw Davies cleverly clipped the ball into the penalty area and a well-timed run and volleyed finish by Huish, evaded Bont keeper, Bessant. Penybont pressed for parity but Barry held on for the 3 points.
In the third game of the day, the match between Merthyr and Swansea looked destined for a scoreless draw, but this closely contested encounter was decided in injury time when Pasquantonio crashed home the winning goal.

16th September
In the first match of the new season at Ocean Park Arena, Pontyclun defeated Swansea 5-0. Swansea had long periods of possession but Pontyclun were always the more threatening and Swans despite the heroics of Swans gloveman, Meacham goals from White (2), Fitzgibbon, Mele and Powell secured the win.
League champions, Barry Town, recorded a fine 4-1 victory over Merthyr after a scintillating first-half display. Bobbett’s fine header put them 1 up in the 15th minute followed by (Huw) Davies, Brown and a screamer from Staddon. The second half was more even and (Paul) Fisher converted a penalty for Merthyr.
In the third game of the day, Newport took an early lead against Penybont with two fine goals by Compton. Thomas made it 3-0 at the interval. Penybont pressed for parity after the break and should have converted more than the single strike from Langley, but Simmons, then James put the game beyond Penybont.
