A strong Nelson side defeated a weakened Barry Town 4-1 in the first of the o55s Cup Preliminary matches. On a parched, bone-hard Wern field, football, was always going to be scarce, but with Nelson’s extra mobility and midfielder, Bowden orchestrating proceedings, the hosts secured a well-deserved win. Pope put them 1-0 up at the interval, and further goals in the second half from MoM, Bowden, Wilding and Rowlands secured victory, before habitual scorer, Fredriksen, got himself on the scoresheet for Barry after good work by Rutherford and Sims.
