Barry stay top as Llanelli close-in!

30th November
Barry Town stay top of the League, with a 3-0 win over Rockspur...writes Ricky... In a cracking game of football held at Jenner Park, two very fit and organised teams cancelled each other out in the first half, with Rockspur’s full backs Douglas and Evans outstanding in the first period. In the second half, the hosts got the breakthrough when a great cross-field ball from Dodds allowed Davey to shoot into the far corner. The second came from a lovely weighted pass from Searle to Griffiths, who beat his man before squaring to Aldridge who made no mistake. Wells capped off a fine performance in the midfield with a neat finish after a sweeping Barry move.
Briton Ferry Llansawel defeated a stubborn Pentyrch 6-0 through a Patel hat-trick and further goals from Wheel, Huw Jones and Walsh. The visitors put in a great shift and stuck to their shape admirably, but the hosts were too good on the day and keep up the pressure on the top two.
Ferndale beat Upper Rhondda 0-1 in a good game at Ynys Park....writes Stu JD....In a close, hard-fought game, Emmanuel got the all-important goal for the visitors which keeps them in the hunt for honours. Rhondda missed a penalty towards the end which probably would have given us a deserved draw, although Ferndale might disagree!
The 2-7 score-line flatters Llanelli as Penybont were in the game until the final stages...writes Kev Bartley...Penybont went into a deserved 2-0 lead with goals from Howard and Taylor. Llanelli pulled one back through a Banks own goal, and equalised before half time through Bartley, from an Andy Legg cross. The second half was another even affair with the hosts hitting the post twice and being denied on other occasions by Gaz Evans who was outstanding in the Llanelli goal. Bartley put Llanelli ahead and further goals from ‘Willy’ Williams (2) and another own-goal, this time by Williams. Bartley completed his hat-trick, to seal the 3 points for Llanelli. Blandon had a fine game for Llanelli, but a lot of the credit today goes to Penybont.

League leaders, Barry Town made it 5 from 5 with an emphatic 8-1 win over Penybont...writes Paul Richards... A fast start from Barry put a spirited and well organised Penybont side under early pressure and resulted in goals by Maher and Davey. The hosts continued to pass the ball around well and scored 3 further goals in the first half through Ferguson (2) and Dodds. Jeff Williams scored direct from a corner for Penybont, to make it 5-1 at the interval. In the second half Dodds scored his second, Ferguson completed his hat-trick. And Baker completed the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.

Llanelli Town maintained their 100% record, with a 1-3 victory away to a much-respected Ferndale...writes Simon Rogers...Although the visitors started well, the hosts should have taken the lead from the penalty spot on 20 minutes, but Reds keeper, Evans pulled off a great save from the unfortunate Jamie Michael. Shortly before half time Llanelli took a deserved lead following a great run down the line by Williams who fed Trundle, who drilled a low finish into the home goal. Changes at half time saw the pace of McEwan introduced and a neat 1-2 with Trundle saw the former smash the ball into the top corner to double the lead. Ferndale deservedly pulled a goal back through the dangerous Jamie Michael to give hope to the home side however Davey was on hand to follow up a Harries strike to make sure of the 3 points. Manager Bartley, very happy with a real team performance, the standout today was Phillips, on his debut, with a commanding performance.

An entertaining match between Upper Rhondda and Briton Ferry Llansawel finished 3-3...writes Stu JD... Rhondda took a 1-0 lead into the break through Lewis, but the game burst into life in the second half. Ferry started pushing forward and got a goal back with a speculative long-range shot/cross from Harding. Warren then dispelled any myths about a lack of pace by bursting through to make it 2 1 to Ferry. Kennedy then scored with a brilliant lob to put Ferry firmly in the driving seat at 3-1 with 15 minutes left. Rhondda fought back and earned a penalty which was calmly slotted home by Oram, to make it 2-3 and In the 89th minute a good run down the right by Lewis ended with a pass into the box for centre back Jones to make it 3 3!

Penydarren took the spoils against Pentyrch with 2-0 at The Bont through Lane and Williams.

The second half was pretty much the same as the first, goals everywhere with Ferndale making their Veterans League experience count and deservedly taking the points in the end. Rockspurs scorers: Martin (2), Moran (2) and Preece. Jones (3), Powell, Rees, Emmanuel and Griffiths on target for the visitors.”
