Good win for Wales o60s in Cardiff!

The Wales Veterans' Football Association were proud to host a match between Wales o60s and Huntingdon veterans and after a competitive encounter the hosts ran out comfortable winners...writes Leighton Gates...

Wales 60's entertained a very good Huntingdon side peppered with England Veterans players from a number of age groups. Wales started on the front-foot, pressing the visitors into their own half, but it was the visitors who had the first effort on goal a break down the right saw the ball fired across the goal and behind for a goal kick.

Wales settled and dominated possession and the ball. Owen returning from 2 knee Operations organising the defence and playing out from the back. A dominant trio in the centre of midfield pressed constantly opening up the visitors on numerous occasions. After 30 minutes a hamstring tweak saw the lively debutant Peter Wadeson from Wrexham withdraw from the game. A fine passage of play down the right wing with a few one two's saw Ian Jones burst into the box and slot home for the first goal on 35 minutes. Wales continued to press until half time.

The second-half saw the visitors rally but it was short lived and Wales composed themselves and started to dominate the ball again with some excellent football, moving the opposition around constantly. Wales continued to attack and we're rewarded with another goal on 65 minutes, Fredrickson running at the defence then squaring the ball for Mele to fire home. Wales now in buoyant mood continued to press and a maisey run from Fredrickson who slid in Ross, who's pinpoint cross to the back post saw Mele rise and head home for a 3rd and a well-deserved win. Debutant, Dean Jones, also made an excellent first start for Wales, with a controlled and dominant performance in midfield.

The game, played under very warm conditions, was great preparation for the forthcoming 4 Nations in La Manga, Spain next March
