The Wales Veterans' Football Association accepted an invitation to send an o40s Representative squad to face Oxfordshire o40s League winners, Watlington Vets, and on a beautiful grass surface at a picturesque Watlington Town FC, Wales completely overwhelmed their opponents.....writes a pitch-side reporter...
After their first defeat in 30 months last time out (losing 1-0 to Malta), Wales were in no mood for a repeat in their first fixture of the season....and Laurence Owen’s squad completely dominated the game from start to finish.
Despite 6 players being unavailable the squad goes from strength to strength and debuts were also given to Carl Thomas and Ryan Howells who both performed well. Gavin Beddard (3), Sam Brown (2), Mark Dunn (2), Matt Hughes (2), Ryan Howells got on the scoresheet and Keeper, Johnathon Howe, who was a virtual bystander all game, made a terrific save late on to ensure a precious clean sheet.
