Wales o55s beat a strong Wiltshire Veterans in Cardiff!

By Alun Huish

Wales o55s 4, Wiltshire select XI 3.....Friday 13th March at Ocean Park Arena, Cardiff.

The Wales Veterans' Football Association welcomed a Wiltshire Veterans' select XI to Cardiff’s Ocean Park to face a Wales o55s Representative squad....writes Manager, John Jones...

Wales included a few new faces in their squad hoping to impress in their debut game, but the hosts started the game poorly and gave the away the ball to easily and but for two very good saves by Wales keeper, Toops, the visitors would have taken the lead. Wales started to up their game and put pressure on a very good Wiltshire team. Chances started to come and on the half-hour, Kennedy was fouled in the area and Lewis put away the resultant penalty. Five minutes later, the best move of the game saw a great ball by ‘Vaz’ Thomas to Kavanagh on the wing and his superb cross was well finished by Lewis, again, with a brilliant near post header.

In the second half Wales made a quite a few changes which inevitably disrupted the flow and the hosts found themselves 2-3 down! Two long balls over the top, latched on to by Wiltshire’s centre forward who finished very well and a header from corner. Wales fought back into the game and levelled the scores when debutant centre back, Lyndon Davies, tapped in at the far post from a corner. With 10 mins remaining a through ball by Thomas was swept home neatly by Thompson to put Wales 4-3 up. Wales manged to see out the game and secure an impressive win against a very good Wiltshire team.
