o40s Leagues Kick-off with a bang!

13th September

West League – Division 1
Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Rockspur 5-3. Johnson scored a hat-trick for the visitors but, goals by Warren (2), (Nick) Jones, Gowen and (Stephen) Davies secured the points for ‘Ferry’.
Llanelli Town demolished poor Swansea, 16 nil, with Brown (6!) and Shannon (5!), amongst their scorers.

Central League - Division 1
Tata Steel beat Cascade 3-1 with both sides low on numbers but putting on a good competitive game...writes Howard...Tata Steel having the majority of possession but Cascade hit the woodwork several times. It was 1-1 at half-time Williams putting the hosts ahead before Gorham levelled. However, after a few wasted opportunities in the second-half Tata took the points, scoring 2 goals in the final 15mins through Williams and Johnson.
Title holders, Llantwit Fardre beat last season’s Div 2 champions, Cooper FC 5-2, through a Bowden hat-trick and goals by Cachia and Alford. Hartrey and Crock scored for the visitors.
Penygraig recorded an emphatic 0-6 win away to Upper Rhondda ...writes Mark..."We didn’t have it all our own way and upper Rhondda created some decent chances throughout the game. However, when we got the ball down and played football, we looked like causing problems on every attack and scored through (Martin) Jones (2), Phillips, Hughes, (Michael) Davies and an OG.

Central League - Division 2
Cwmbach beat Pentyrch 5-1 in a competitive game played in warm conditions at Cwmbach Rec...writes Adrian...Cwmbach led 2-1 at HT and edged the 2nd half with goals from Durston (3), Blandon and Moulds. Gomm scored for the visitors.
Aber Valley defeated Aberdare Town 5-3 at Abertridwr with De Souza (2), Hanmer, Wood and Duncan on target for the hosts and Welch (2) and Howells replying for the visitors.
Ely Sports lost to Ynyscynon 3-5 in a close game at Cwrt yr Ala. The hosts scored through Williams, Gardner and O’Dare but the visitors secured the points through Shirtman (2), Evans (2) and Adams.
Penybont trounced Church Village 14-0 including 6 goals from Rawlings!

East League - Division 1
Penarth Wanderers were beaten 5-8 by Pontymister in a crazy game at Eastern High...writes Acker Robinson...A nightmare Sunday morning with players..and the ref dropping out! However, Penarth managed to sort things and get the game played and they took an early lead through Robinson. The visitors scored 3 in quick succession through Donald, Morris and an OG. A combination of naive Penarth defending and ruthless Pontymister finishing saw the visitors score a further five goals through Aldridge (2), Thomas, Mears and Richards. In a constant tit-for-tat battle, the hosts did score a further four goals through Hutchinson, McGrath, Maksimovic and Powell but try as they might they couldn’t claw back the deficit in a very good, competitive match, played in exactly the right spirit.
Newport Corries were victorious away to last year’s runners-up, Canton, 3-1, with Hutchinson (2) and Collins on target. Mountstephen scored for the hosts.

East League - Division 2
Cwmbran Celtic beat Wattsville 4-2 with Celtic striker Matthews absolutely running the show...writes Ryan Hatton...Wattsville played well in spells and showed plenty of positives including a Jenkins brace, but Matthews scored all four goals for the hosts to secure the points.
Tiger Bay recorded a big 7-1 home win against Cwmcarn, with Askar (2), Ibrahim (2), Noor (2) and Ahmed on target. Cook got a consolation for the visitors. Cogan Coronation lost 2-6 to Machen with Bateman bagging 4 for the visitors! Gulliford and Sullivan were also on target and Christoforato scored a brace for the hosts. Rogerstone beat Thornhill 4-1 in decent game at Newport Fugitives FC...writes Halfo... Rogerstone scored through (Rhys) Thomas (2), (Daf) Thomas and Frame. Bourton scored for the visitors, but although the hosts were down to 10 in second half they managed to secure the win.
